Curriculum vitae

Born in 1938 inStockholm I started my career as a journalist at Dagens Nyheter in 1960. For one year I travelled with my ex-husband by car through Asia (to most countries South of the Soviet Union and China) in 1962-63, and then worked as a reporter at the news/actualities of the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation. I was their free lance correspondent to the Middle East, based in Beirut during the hot news years of 1966-68. I also worked as a foreign news reporter at Channel 2 of the Swedish Television for a while. But during twelve years I did altogether other things, like working as a mental nurse, a pre school teacher and a textile worker, before I returned to journalism in 1984, this time as a free lance. For 25 years I lived in Kungälv near Gothenburg on the Swedish West Coast with my husband Tom Fahlén who is a psychiatrist. But in 2011 we moved to Stockholm.

We have two adult daughters.

Main areas of interest

During the last ten years my main professional domain has been psychiatry, and specifically child neuropsychiatry, like autism, ADHD and alike. But I have also travelled extensivley in Africa and reported for radio, press and sometimes TV.

Books

I have written fourteen books by now. Most of them are on psychiatry, on medical treatment of depression and anxiety (1993), on training of people with autism (1994), and the latest ones on adults with ADHD, specially those who commit crimes. All but one are in Swedish, "Alcohol - another trap for Africa" (1988) being the only English one.

TV/videos

Sixteen educational videos deal with children with different neuropsychiatric disorders, like autism, ADHD, Tourette syndrom, Williams syndrom et cetera. They were produced for non-profit organisations with parents and adults.

The latest one is a report on how clever teachers can handle “different” children in a mainstream classroom.

I have also made quite a few shorter and longer items and programs for the Swedish TV on related subjects. But also a series of films from Rwanda, Burundi and Kenya for the African Housing Fund, an African self-help organisation.

Radio

My basic medium is actually the radio. I have made uncountable programs for the public service channel of the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation on very different issues. But of late mostly for its science programmes.

Articles

Articles range from popular science articles on brain research to more colourful stories from Africa or the suburbs of Gothenburg.
