Eva's Rat Coat Page - Satin

To: Eva's Rat Colour Genetics Page, Eva's Rat Colour Genetics Page - Coated.

The dark rat in the photo to the left is supposed to a a satin... This rat is also rex. The dark ratin the photo to the right, called Kifuno, has the same colour and also looks satinized, and may be related to the other rat.

Satin came in with German Blue from Germany in 1995, but these rats just have a kind of dull satin sheen, they do not look like satins in other species. I guess they are not really satin, they may just have a glossier fur than some rats. Or it may another gene with weak satinizing effect.

I have learned they have a new satin gene on rats in Australia, it is from what I have heard more satin than the rats in these photos, but not as satin as normal satin mice, cavies and so on. The Australian satin rats have much finer hair than normal rats. The rats in the photos have normal hair.
