Treats for sweet-loving rats!

Denna sida på svenska. Sometimes I feel like stuffing myself with so called healthy sweets, but what are healthy sweets? To that is something with a lot of berries or fruit in, and a while ago I got a recipe from a friend for making a very healthy healthy kind of sweets.

You get yourself a mixer (I lent one) and pour one glass of pineapple/orange juice (pure orange juice is not really as tasteful), one banana cut in pieces, and a cup of strawberries. I usually buy frozen strawberries that I thaw in the refridgerator just as many as I need at the time.

Then you mix together the ingredients and drink it as a rich and tasteful juice. Lots of nice and healthy vitamins!

Back to the rats! I though I was going to try giving my rats this delicate mixture to my rats, but since I did not want them to soil all the cage I added some healthy wheat germs so it reminded more of porridge than anything else. Then I gave this to my rats in a cople of small bowls that I use solely for treats and bits to taste. A bit hesistantly I put these bowls in with my rats, evidently strawberries, bananas, juice and wheat germs are healthy, but does the rats know this? I gave them about two big spoonfuls each and to my surprice they devoured it within minutes! I don't know if they just liked it or they knew it was healthy, or a bit of both!

Since my rats liked this so much I tried some other healthy treats, like a strawberry each - which they were not at all that excited about - and a piece of banana each - which they actually seemed to like. I have also given them tomatojuice with wheat germs mixed in it, and they ate that rather happily. But the home made banana/wheat germs/strawberries/juice mixture is still the favourite healthy treat for my rats. Comfortably enough, I must add, since I usually make this for myself regularly (without the wheat germs) thus it is very easy to just add some wheat germs and give it to my rats, without having to strain myself in order to give them something healthy. Furthermore I rather often drink tomato juice so it is easy to just add some wheat germs and give to my rats.

I must add that I find it better to give my rats stuff that is easy for me to do, or stuff that I do anyway, instead of putting in a lot of time effort in making food and treats for my rats.

All that is left is trying other fruits and ingredients to see if there are other mixtures the rats would like.
