Vesicularia dubyana - Java moss

The Java Moss is one of my favourite plants, dark and growing quite fast, lying on the bottom of the aquarium. It sure looks like a moss. When I bred my beloved Emperor tetras some years back, and all the other small easy-to-breed common fish I've bred, this plant was the best plant ever. That is because I always left the babies in with the parents, and then the baby fish needed somewhere to hide. A lot of java moss can hide many little baby fish.

The Swedish name for this plant is javamossa. In the photo to the left you can see that it has grown.

I have noticed that the java moss grows much faster with PMDD fertilizer and some extra light. With low light and no fertilizer it grows slower. It does not die easily so it is often used with no light or very little light, as cover for fish that are very shy.

Vesicularia sp. ''Christmas moss''

I have just a little bit of this plant, I'll try to take a better picture of it :-)
