Limnobium laevigatum - frogbit

To the left is a picture from above, and the the right is photo from the side :-)

I had actually never had this species before even though I've had many different floating plants through the years, since I like them :-)

As you can clearly see in the photo to the left this plant produces runners, so they are easy to get more of. They are good because they shade whatever plants you have below that might not like to get too much light, and they have long roots dangling underneath that makes good places for young baby fish to hide and seek for food. The roots can make a stunning effect, when combined with vertical Bamboo sticks.

This is one of my plants with a flower...

The plant itself is maybe 5 or 6 centimeters across, and the roots are very long for such a small plant, more than 15 cm long.

This plants is often called Frogbit.
