This plant usually grows fast, but has no roots. It is good baby fish to hide in. The photo shows just the tip of the plant. This is a world wide plant. The common C. demersum in the photo to the left has leaves that divide into leaves with two tips. A more unusual variety of the species has leaves with four tips, photo to the left.

here is a photo of the leaves of the two varieties of C. demersum. These two varieties keep the same characteristics during cultivation even if cultivated in the same environment, so they are true varieties.

Close-ups of the leaves.

Both varieties can grow in thick layers under the waterline. They are highly useful for fry and for other fish that needs to hide.
