Bacopa amplexicaulis - water hyssop

Bacopa amplexicaulis is an interresting plant that I recently got from a friend. What struck me whan I was planting it into one of my aquaria is that has a distinct smell, like a herb used in cooking :-) I've had Bacopa before, but not this species.

Bacopa is a light green stem plants with smallish fat leaves, several species can be kept in aquaria. To propagate you just cut off the plants that get too high and plant the top next to the mother plant, after a while you will have a pretty group of Bacopas. The top leaves, that are closest to the light source often get a bit reddish in colour.

Bacopa monnieri - dwarf bacopa, moneyworth

This is my new Bacopa, I have exchanged aquarium plants with some other fish loving people and this is one of the new species I got :-)

The photo to the left shows the new little plant when it was just planted and the photo to the right shows the same plant after it started it started to feel at home :-)
