Berdichev
är en fin ukrainsk stad som ligger i sydvästra delen av Ukraina.Staden
har sin gamla historia,känd från 1320.Då bodde där,
den stora fursten Hedymin som ägde marken kring Berdichev och styrde
staden. Senare skänkte han staden till en rik familj Tyshkevih.

Berdichev
is a nice town. Situated in the central part of Ukraine. The town has
an old history dating back to 1320. At this time here lived a grand
duke named Hedymin who owned the land around the town. In the beginning
of the 17th century the castle of Berdichev was built, as which the
town is famous for. The castle is named after the catholic order barefooted
Carmelites. The Carmelites were highly educated monks, who preserved
and managed the castle. In the castle there is an icon that is told
to make miracles. It was blessed by the Vatican in Rome. Every year
pilgrims come to the town from different places around Ukraine, and
from other countries to see the icon. In the holy catholic chuch of
Varvara in Berdichev, the french author Onore de Balzak married the
polish countess Evelina Ganska. Berdichev has around 90 000 inhabitants.
The town 15 schools and a medical, pedagogy and a technical high school.
Two major enterprises manufacture equipment for the chemical and oil
refinery industry. Other companies produce furniture, leather, shoes,
clothes, beer, dairy products, etc. Every year young men participate
in junior championship in boxing and high jump. The town cultural, religious
and scientific connections with countries such as Poland, Israel, USA
and Russia. Berdichev is visited by more and more tourists every year.
