I bought two gerbils from a very nice Swedish breeder called Agneta Johansson. These 2 were called Tornado's Ulindi and Tornado's Utrix. Ulindi had red eyes and was a female, and she was born on the 27th of November 1998. Ulindi weighed about 65 grams when she was not pregnant. Utrix had black eyes and was a male, and he was born on the 19th of November 1998. Utrix weighed about 80 grams.
Utrix was a dark eyed honey (ee). Ulindi was a red eyed honey (eepp). In this photo (to the right) you can see Utrix, isn't he pretty? He was very tame, loved to lie in my hand being petted, or sit on my shoulder. Utrix was one of my favourite gerbils.

In this photo (to the left) you can see Ulindi, another of my favourite gerbils. Actually Ulindi and Utrix was my first favourite gerbils, or my first gerbils ever ... Their aquarium was 113 liters, they used to live in a smaller aquarium that was only 73 litres, but I think that is a bit too small. Their new home was in the form of, well, imagine an aquarium shaped as a circle, and cut out a 1/4. It was made by wood, and the perimeter is made by plexiglass, not glass. It seems that they were much satisfied with their home. It was filled halfway up with bedding material, toilet rolls and hay. They got lots of hay almost daily and it was easy to see that they loved their hay! I had friends collecting paper rolls and small paper boxes for them, so they got new play things daily. They also got sticks and branches. They just loved dry bread!

Here is a photo of the gerbil babies born 11th of February 1999. This was Ulindi's and Utrix' first litter. There were two dark eyed babies, a male and a female, and one red eyed male baby. I named the red eyed male Askim. He is most probably a eefpp. The dark eyed female I named Asta, and the dark eyed male I named Arriba. I sold Askim and kept the other two. Arriba had to be put down at the age of over a year due to a stroke.

Here is my pretty Arriba, he had a lot of colour, he even had more colour than his father, Utrix. He had stronger colour and the colour also went further down his sides. I do not know if that is a good thing, if I ever wanted to show him, but I like it a lot. Asta looked more like Utrix in colour, she was quite as strongly coloured as him and did not have her colour that far down her sides.

Here is Buster, a son from Utrix' and Ulindi's second litter of babies, born on the 17th of April 1999. He was red eyed as Ulindi and had a lot more colour on him than Askim ever had. Since I like red eyed colours so much I kept Buster for breeding purposes, and got him a beautiful little girl gerbil... Isn't he just adorable?

Utrix & Ulindi had many litters so I sold many pet gerbils to new homes for a while :-)

Utrix & Ulindi were still living together in their big cage but they have ceased producing wonderful babies, their latest litter was born in January 2001.
When they were almost 3 1/2 years old one strange thing was that they didn't look older than they did when they were just about a year old or so.

Now they are both gone.
