Sores on the lips are usually considered to be caused by a fungus. But in one of my guinea pig books it says this is a bacterial disease that spreads via infected food dishes and things the cavy touches with its mouth. Water nipples, wire (if the cavy bites on the wire of a wire cage) and so on.
Often this spreads into the mouth, growing like a brush between the front teeth.
Treatment:
We use medication against fungi and
avoid feeding apples and tomatoes.
