Here are some photos of Swedish standard breeds and varieties. The Swedish cavy standard varies a bit from the standards in other countries, so I have tried to put together an easy to understand survey of it.
We seem to have more longhaired breeds than most other countries, and we also have different rules for showing them, meaning that we concentrate on the fur quality of the coated breeds and the cavy with the best fur will always win his or her class.
I have recently lost most of the photos of the standard breeds, so if anyone has any good photos of standard breeds (mainly self colours) that you don't mind having on these pages, please contact me.
In Sweden we regnize five different Shorthaired Breeds:
In Sweden we recognize three different Roughhaired Breeds. (The Rex Breed and The Teddy Breed are lookalikes, but based on different genes):
All Roughhaired Breeds are recognized in all standardized colours and markings (Self and Non-Self). There is to be NO disqualifications on the grounds of bad colour or bad markings (colour and markings are not really important, these breeds are bred for fur quality!).
In Sweden we recognize six different Longhaired Breeds:
All Longhaired Breeds are recognized in any colour and any marking, the colour and/or marking DO NOT have to be in the standards. The Texel, Merino and Alpaca Breeds are produced by combining the rex gene with the Sheltie, Coronet & Peruvian.
