The Non-Self Breed
The Non-Self Breed is divided into several markings and
the Agouti/Argentes (which by some are considered markings
in themselves). These are: Agouti/Argente, Bicoloured,
Dalmation, Brindle, Roan, Himalaya and Dutch.
- Agouti/Argente
Agouti and Argente means that every hair can have
two colours. A Golden Agouti has black near the skin,
a small band of red and at the tip of the hair there
is again black colour. These layers of colour are
referred to as undercolour (black near skin),
bandcolour (red band) and ticking (black hair tips). In the
Silver Agouti the band colour is white. Undercolour and
ticking should be the same in all Agouti/Argente varieties!
There are five different colours among the Agouti/Argentes
that are standaized: four different Agouties and one Argente.
The four Agouti colours are:
- Golden Agouti
- Silver Agouti
- Cinnamon Agouti
No photo.
- Lemon Agouti
The Argente colour is:
- Tricoloured
The Tricoloured marking is recognized in
all standardized colours. If the three
colours are Red/Black/White the variety is
called Tortoiseshell & White.
The pattern is very important.
- Bicoloured
The Bicoloured marking is recognized in all
standardized colours. If the two
colours are Red/Black the variety is
called Tortoiseshell.
The pattern to be similar to Tricoloured.
- Dalmation
The Dalmation marking is recognized in all
standardized colours. The photo shows a Coronet Dalmation.
- Brindle
The Brindle marking is only recognized in
Black/Red. To be evenly brindled
all over the body. This one has too much black :-)
- Roan
The Roan marking is recognized in all
standardized colours. I don't have a roan photo so I made a little drawing :-)
- Himalaya
The Himalaya marking is only recognized as
Black Himalaya and Chocolate Himalaya.

The photo shows a rex crested himalaya pet female.
- Dutch
The Dutch marking is recognized in all
standardized colours except White.
- Tan/Fox
The tan has a tan coloured belly and the Fox has a white belly.
The picture shows Grey Tan.
