Saga is a small Orange Agouti Satin female. I named her Saga since she is so small and has such a wonderful colour... "Saga" is Swedish for "Fairy Tale", and she sure looked like something from a fairy tale! Saga was a very small cavy, she only weighed 550 grams when she arrived, at the age of about 6 months. She is probably born in December 2004 and she has no pedigree.
Unfortunately the breeder had mated Saga when Saga was still about 3 months old (just a little baby cavy herself) so she had two little baby boys to care for. They were born on the 18th of April 2005. She was very small to begin with, but having a litter at this young age didn't do things better.
Saga's mother is probably a Golden Agouti Solid.
Saga's father is a brother to her mother.
Saga's grandmother is probably a Self Grey female.
Saga maybe has a Cinnamon brother.
When Saga arrived on the 24th of June I only had two cavies left, Stjärna and
Danira. Saga came with a 5 year old cavy female, called Trassel, that I had agreed to take, since Trassel had no home.
So now I had 4 cavies again!
When I got Saga her breeder said that Saga might not live long, and probably would die before she even turned two years old. I really, really hope that is not true, since she has become such a lovely pet. She soon became very tame!
When Saga had lived here almost 3 months she has gained weight and was about 600 grams. She is a small cavy and she had babies when she was just a baby herself. But that did not explain her hunger and her continual weight loss. Shew was always hungry, and I fed her extra exery day several times a day.
That didn't help so in the end I had to take her to the vet to put her to sleep, she was very thin by then.
I was told by a very knowledgeable vet that there was nothing to do for her. There was something very wrong with the way some minerals was used in her body, and that probably caused her problems.
