Na was a Self Chocolate cavy with funny ears. Her ears stood straight up in the air, maybe just 1 cm apart... I got her from a friend who had lost interest in her. Actually I don't think my friend ever had any interest in Na. Na was never tame. She was about a year old when I got her, and to hold her was like trying to hold on to a wild rat with soap in it's fur. Impossible. She started her life with me by escaping and running away on the floor and hide like a wild rat. She was hard to catch!
But Tjabo was fond of her.
I know that don't have any photos of her.
I already had Tjabo and Pyret when I was given Na as a present. But Na and Pyret did not like eachother. When I kept them in two cages close to eachother they got angry just from smelling eachother. It was hard work to get them to become friends. When they did become friends they still had some arguments sometimes, and then Tjabo went in between them, trying to calm them down.
I did put in a whole lot of work, trying to tame Na. I put all three cavies beside eachother, and fed them vegetables. Tjabo ate. Pyret ate. Na refused. Na didn't even want to eat vegetables from my hand when she did get older, even though she did get a bit more tame and more used to handling as time went by. Na never did become really tame.
When Na was in heat I could not let her stay with Tjabo. She was in heat every 24 days or so. I know it is more common for todays females to be in heat every 16 to 18 days, but I know very well how often these females was in heat, I actually marked in my calender, since it was important. Before I had Na I took Tjabo out of the cage when Pyret was in heat. And Tjabo got very upset. After a while I learned to take out the female that was in heat instead, that way Tjabo still had at least one girl all the time.
I really do not remember letting Na & Tjabo having a litter together, but I might have let them. If I did that litter was planned and I did sell all the babies.
When Pyret died I still had Tjabo and Na. But when Tjabo too died, Na was alone, and I soon saw that she was not happy about it. I did get a friend, but she did not her new friend that much. And then she got and died, at the age of 5. Na died because she had been eating a lot of pellets before I got her. She did eat some pellets when I had her too, but not that much. Na is the only cavy I've had that died from eating pellets, since I stopped feeding pellets altogether soon after I bought Drutten. Soon after I rehomed Na's new friend and lived without cavies for a short time.
