Aristoteles Danira was born here on the 10th of July 2000,
along with her brother Danilo. Both are
Lunkaryas, Danira
is a Golden Agouti & Golden Lunkarya and Danilo is a
Golden Agouti, Golden & White Lunkarya.
Since I had a whole bunch of cavies by then I gave both Danira
and her brother to a lunkarya breeder, but then I lost 3 of my
cavy herd... So I got Danira back on the 11th of February 2001! When
I got her back she had lost her left eye.
Here is a photo of Danira's brother Aristoteles Danilo...
Both were about 4 weeks old when these photos were taken.
Danira & Danilo's mother is
Aristoteles Binky, and their father
is Ruckelbo's Gizmo, a Black & White Lunkarya.
Here is a photo of Danira that was taken in Februari 2001.
After this photo was taken she went to visit a male... And
then she did not return until a week after her litter was born!
Her babies are 3 Lunkarya males, a Golden Agouti called
Aristoteles Gantus, a Golden called Aristoteles Gullrik
and a Golden, Golden Agouti & White called Aristoteles Gazze.
Here are Danira's babies Gazze, Gantus & Gullrik. They were
three or four weeks when these photos was taken but they all have
moved to new homes since that.
Danira went to a lunkarya breeder's place to mate with a pretty Lunkarya male...
Danira met Aristoteles Farro (son of
Binky) and Danira's half-brother...
And now she has 3 beautiful
lunkarya babies, born on the 14th of May 2002!
They are 2 females and a male. The male is
Aristoteles Lurix, cream or buff lunkarya. The females are
Aristoteles Laia, buff/buff agouti and white (or is it cream?),
and Aristoteles Laoi, golden agouti/golden and white.
Here is a photo of Lurix, Laia, and Laoi. In the photo the
babies are 4 hours old. All three has moved to the lunkarya breeder instead of Danira, so I could keep her as my pet, so they could to become
breeders too. And then the breeder tells me Lurix is a female too!
Hoho... I checked her many many times, since I sooooo
much wanted her to be a female, but she looked exactly as a male
to me right from birth and all the time until she moved to
the lunkarya breeder at the 14th of June 2002 ...
A few days after I originally wrote this the lunkarya breeder changed her mind and
said she was a he, so I was right all along...
She must have looked at another baby, since she has so many, or maybe she didn't look at all, who knows...
Now Danira is retired from breeding. She had 2 litters
with 6 babies (Gazze, Gullrik & Ganthus,
and then Lurix, Laia & Laoi). I will not keep any of her babies
since I have too many cavies already, but the lunkarya breeder will keep one of the males and all three females to produce more Lunkaryas. I think she sold 2 of the males to a new home together.
Here are 2 new photos of Danira, at the age of 3 1/2 years. It may not be so easy to see but in the photo to the left it is possible to see that she has lost her eye on that side. She manages very well though! That little accident happened when she was living at
the lunkarya breeder's place, so I have no idea how it happened. I think the lunkarya breeder was cruel when she said that I might not want Danira back since she had lost one of her eyes... Of course I wanted her back!
Here is a new photo of Danira, taken in June 2005. She is now the last of my Lunkaryas. It's the 28th of June 2005 when I write this and I think she is looking very fit be 5 years in just 2 weeks or so :-)
Danira has always been a very nice cavy, she never had any quarrels with anyone, and always she has been easy to care for. She has always been healthy too, except for her injured eye. I hope she will live for a long time...
In the photo she is laying next to her dog. I recently weighed Danira and was 1330 grams, that is a lot for such an old cavy I think.
