KINYARWANDA LEXICON

Kinyarwanda is a Bantu language spoken by up to 10 million people in Rwanda and surrounding areas. This figure also includes a world-wide diaspora.

During the mid 1990s, M.M. Ntihabose compiled the first draft for a Swedish-Kinyarwanda lexicon, the first of its kind. Its purpose was primarily to benefit Rwandans living in Sweden. Ntihabose's manuscript was subsequently revised and appeared as a small in-house publication in 2003. It contains roughly 5,000 entries, and includes either direct translations to Kinyarwanda or explanatory sections in Kinyarwanda, and sometimes both.

The lexicon is currently out-of-print and thus distributed mainly as a PDF.
