Instructions in English

nordahls.webb.se contains interactive crosswords in the Swedish language.

System requirements
PC with any Windows version. Anything from 9x to Vista works fine!
We recommend any of the web browsers Internet Explorer, Avant Browser or Maxthon Browser to do these crosswords.

1.
The one thing that you need to check is an ActiveX setting as follows:
Go to Windows control panel: Start menu|Settings|Control panel|Internet Options|Security|Internet|Custom Level.
Change "Download unsigned ActiveX controls" from "Disable" to "Prompt" and click Ok.

If you are using any of the recommended web browsers, this setting is also available from the menu: Tools|Internet Options|Security|Internet|Custom Level.

2.
At this time, if you use Internet Explorer, everything is setup to load a crossword. Return to the start page nordahls.webb.se and click on one of the crossword links.

The first time a crossword is loaded, you will be asked to accept to install "Microsoft Runtime" and "Microsoft Transfer control". You have to answer "Yes". You don't need to restart the computer after the installation.

4.
When you enter a new crossword page, you will see a dialog asking you to accept to run Xword(x)nn.CAB. You must answer "Yes", because the CAB file contains the ActiveX control that in fact is the crossword! The file is placed in your folder for temporary internet files.
Now the crossword automatically appears in the browser.

5. Doing the crossword
Start by clicking where you want to start to write.
The pointer (the active square) is blue when across is selected and red when vertical is selected.
You toggle between across and vertical with space or enter key or with a double click.
Move the pointer with the arrow keys or with a mouse click.
If you don't have the foreign Swedish characters Å, Ä and Ö on your keyboard, you may press 1, 2 and 3 instead.
To fit in the small space available in the crossword, the questions are printed with very small font. If you click on a question, a dialog with this question in normal font size is shown.
Use "Spara" ("Save") if you want to continue to do the crossword at another time.
Use "Hämta" ("Restore") when you want to continue with this crossword.
Use "Skicka in" ("Send") when you are finished with the crossword to send the solution to me. You are asked to enter your name and optional e-mail address or similar. Your crossword solution is automatically checked. If the crossword is not 100% correct, this dialog is shown: "Korsordet kan innehålla rutor som är felaktigt ifyllda. Vill du ändå sända in korsordet nu?". If you answer "Yes", you may send it anyway!
It's not necessary to be connected to internet continously when you do these crosswords, only when you load them and when you send the solution to me.

"Hjälp" means "Help", gives a help dialog in Swedish.
"Tillbaka" means "Back".
"Nästa korsord" means "Next crossword".

It's possible to print out a crossword using the print out function of your web browser. You may have to reduce the margins and choose landscape/portrait depending on crossword size and you may want to reduce to only the first page.

If the dialog "Din dator har inte standardinställningen 'Small fonts' eller 'Små tecken' i Windows kontrollpanel. Detta innebär att storleken på tecken och rutor är förändrat mot normalt och det är inte säkert att du ser hela korsordet. Gå till Startmenyn | Inställningar | Bildskärm | Inställningar |(Avancerat)|Teckenstorlek och ändra!" appears, it means that you have not the default setting "Small fonts" in your monitor settings in Windows control panel. If you don't change to "Small fonts", the crossword will not be properly shown. This is a general problem for most Windows programs, but not many people use anything else but "Small fonts".

The dialog "Vill du spara lösningen så att du kan fortsätta vid ett senare tillfälle?" is shown if you have started to do the crossword and then leave the page without saving first with "Spara". If you select "Yes", the crossword will be properly saved.

The solutions are not published. Welcome to ask other people for a clue in a forum whenever needed.
Besides, if you made a serious attemp to solve it and ask politely for the solution when you send in the crossword, I will send it to you!

--- Information about different web browsers: ---
The web browsers Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape and Opera don't support ActiveX. To solve that problem, there are a few plugins available, e.g. from Adam Lock and Asgard. Some versions of Netscape and Opera works with the Asgard's plugin. Firefox and Mozilla don't work with any of them.
We recommend Internet Explorer to do these crosswords!

Netscape
Netscape has no native support for ActiveX, but this can in some versions be solved with "Asgard ActiveX Container Plugin".
When you are prompted to install the plugin, answer "Install".
You are thereafter asked to restart, but you can ignore this because it will work fine anyway. Just click "Ok".
Make sure to also check the ActiveX setting as described earlier.

Opera
Opera has no native support for ActiveX, but this can in some versions be solved with "Asgard ActiveX Container Plugin".
Download the file npaxctrlev.dll from here to the folder ..\Opera..\Program\Plugins .
Go to "File|Preferences|Multimedia|Find plug-ins..." or (Swedish version) "Arkiv|Inställningar|Multimedia|Sök insticksprogram" and click on "Asgard PluginWizard..." and say OK.
Make sure to also check the ActiveX setting as described earlier.
