Stefan Kayat , raised in the Stockholm area, took up Irish and Scottish traditional music in the mid-eighties.Successively his interest shifted towards his native Nordic traditions along with lots of medieval music, both the latter now making up the bulk of his reportoire. | |
His main instrument is the local type of bagpipe from the West of Dalecarlia, but he also masters - not counting various other bagpipe creeds - Mandolin, Mandola, Appalachian Dulcimer, Recorder, Harmonic Flute and percussion. Stefan has played with different Celtic folk & traditional bands, but listens to most kinds of music and is the main musical contributor of the historical theatre troupe Kompani Bastard. His style of playing, largely based on the musical dialects of fiddlers from the border regions of Norway/Dalecarlia, is characterized by great freedom of improvisation and is also tinted by both Celtic and Balkan music.
